The deepest part of the Gulf of Mexico extends downward for a distance of over 10 Empire State Buildings.

The Gulf is rather shallow in its coastal segments by the continental shelves. However, it dips drastically in a southwestern section called the Sigsbee Deep. This underwater abyss sinks to an estimated maximum depth of over 13,123 feet! That’s more than 10 times as tall as the Empire State Building, at 1,250 feet.
